I was walking down the street in Istanbul when I was robbed by 3 men .They took all my money . I called the consulate to help me because I didn’t feel safe to walk again in that area ,however the lady over the phone answered me “ what I would expect from the consulate to do for me , and that I should just be grateful that they didn’t have my passport as well “ I feel heavy heart . I thought I had more value as an American citizen

I lost communication with my sixteen year old who was traveling back from Italy. She had been visiting her sister who is active duty military for the holiday. Her airline shifted her from a flight with a layover in Milan to Turkish Air flight that ended up with her stuck in Istanbul for over twenty-six hours. It is a city we are completely unfamiliar with. The airline sent her into the city to a hotel on a shuttle. She did not have her bag, any money, or much cell service. She didn’t even know where she was being taken. We could not get through to the airline or airport. After a few agonizing hours, we finally reached out to the Consulate as a last resort. Heather took control of the situation. She found out where our daughter was, gave us good information, and did what she could to ease our minds. She spoke to the hotel manager and made sure our child was safe and in contact as needed. Heather stayed in communication with her until she was back in the air on her way to us. I am so grateful to Heather and our wonderful Consulate in Istanbul. The professionalism and empathy showed to our family during a stressful time has made me beyond grateful. Thank you so much!

Wife and her mother were denied boarding to USA on Turkish Airlines on Aug 6, 2020. Reason: Homeland Security and Border Protection saw that Mother had earlier flight to AMS on Aug 2. That would put her in violation of the ban on travel from EU to USA. In fact that flight was cancelled thus her flight thru Istanbul on another carrier on Aug 6. No help from anyone, Turkish Air, or local Chicago Border Protection. Called Moscow US Embassy and referred to Istanbul. Rebecca, the Duty Officer was amazing. She cared and stayed in contact with us while contacting DHS and assisting with copies of cancelled flights. She was amazing. Thank YOU Rebecca! SO tomorrow they will try again but hopeful that all is truly resolved. Nice to see someone so helpful and dedicated to their job. Hope you soon become an Ambassador Rebecca! You are the best!

Not at all happy. Seeing as I'm from America and my daughter is American. Had an appointment for notary service because Göc won't accept my daughters American birth certificate. Was late because of wrong information and we got refused entry. What happened to our rights if we have an emergency situation? No help at all. Only thing I was impressed with was an email letting me know someone cancelled an appointment and we could reschedule with that one but when I went to submit appointment kept getting server errors. Problem is we spent a lot of money getting to Istanbul and now running out of money because we have to wait until Monday morning. British Embassy is way better and helpful. Now my daughters ikamet is at risk because we were supposed to finish everything today. And where are the American workers? They would be far more understanding. Seems the Turks at the embassy do not care or want to help Americans so why are they working there? I'd like an option of speaking with a real American who would not turn another American away, especially a 15 year old child!
