An absolutely amazing experience. I was welcomed very warmly at the store. The owner, Hakan, spent a great deal of time with me, gave me his full attention, and showed me as many rugs as I wanted to see until I found the perfect fit. Hakan's knowledge of, and love for, Turkish rugs is unmatched. Every rug was excellent quality. It was very difficult to pick just one. Next time I am in Istanbul I will absolutely be visiting Hakan and his store.

I have purchased multiple rugs from Hakan at Imperio Otomano. Hakan has incredible integrity. He sees his role not simply as a salesman, but as a very knowledgeable expert in his field who can inform buyers of exactly what materials and craftsmanship they are purchasing. While you can haggle with other sellers, in the end Hakan is fair and honest in his pricing. Even though it has been years since I have been able to be in his shop, I continue to buy from Hakan because I know that when I get my rug, I will always be satisfied. He doesn't sell until he knows this is true. While he might sell to famous stars and dignitaries, he is equally as humble and courteous to any and all of his customers. Thank you, Hakan for your many years of service and friendship.
Buying a rug from this man is a wonderful experience. The rugs, themselves, are to die for, but the knowledge Hakan has about what he's selling is deep and wide. Also, he'll serve you apple tea and make you feel like a million dollars. Don't go to Istanbul without visiting his store. I have three of his rugs, and feel good every time I step on one.
Let me tell you about my experience at the wonderful Hakan’s Rug Store, in Istanbul. First it was a delight to be met and greeted by Hakan, himself. The staff are very kind and helpful We enjoyed hearing about the background of each of the rugs we liked. Hakan is very knowledgeable about carpet and he only sources the best. And I believe it. Seeing is believing One of the carpets we bought home to Australia is hanging on our wall, it’s too good to walk on. We can recommend that you visit Hakan’s Rug store, and I am sure that you will love the experience like we did.
Hakan is the best rug dealer in the world - period! His rugs are the most beautiful, the buying experience is the best, and his prices are reasonable. He knows everything about rugs, and loves to share his knowledge with customers. We have bought five rugs from him over the years, and we get compliments on them whenever people see them. You simply can't get this level of quality anywhere else. Hakan only procures the best, so you can be sure of your purchase. The buying experience also is a joy and will be a highlight of any trip to the Grand Bazaar. He is also very honest, which is obviously important. I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND contacting him before visiting his store because he is so well-known there are many imposters there. Don't show up at the bazaar asking for him because an imposter is likely to claim his identity and sell you a far inferior product. If you contact him ahead of time he will gladly arrange to meet you to prevent this. When you are as good as he is your reputation is very important, so he'll do everything he can to make sure you aren't ripped off by someone else claiming to be him.
Hakan has a wealth of knowledge on all types of rugs. He knows which rugs come from a particular region by the design. He has so many sizes, colors and patterns to choose from. He also has the perfect size rug in your price range. From 100% silk to a mixed blend of wool. There’s so many different types. It’s a wonderful experience to be with Hakan in his shop and you’ll have a souvenir that lasts a lifetime.
