This is the home to the existing successor of Mevlana today, Hasan Çıkar Dede. The only geniune and operational mevlevihane of modern Turkey is here in Silivrikapi, Istanbul; not Konya.

Authentic sufi ceremonies and culture--not merely a performance for tourists

I went there with the intention of worshipping God and learning more about the Mevlevi order. The personal encounters with many lovely people as well as the Dhikr were very enriching for my soul, until a lady asked me in the break to talk to her outside. She charged me 50 TL saying that the government forces them to do so. This was very disappointing for me since I was never charged in a house of God for praying, and i had to do so in a place where people claim to focus on character purification. I am pretty sure neither the prophet Muhammed, nor Mevlana Rumi or Shams Etabrisi would accept this behavior.

There are a number of opportunities to see dervishes whirling in İstanbul. The best known of these is the weekly ceremony in the semahane (whirling-dervish hall) in the Galata Mevlevi Museum in Tünel. This one-hour ceremony is held on Sunday at 5pm and costs 70 per person. Come early to buy your ticket. Another much longer and

Excellent introduction to Mevlana, to include music, social session and dance.
