Beautiful, eerie and enchating. Guarded by very large and fierce looking dogs this dilapidated building is worth the uphill hike to visit. This place and the surrounding forest would be the perfect location for a creepy horror movie.

Worth a visit. The largest wooden construction in Europe, but almost ruined. This reflects real Turkish political approach to minorities and, specially, Christians. Building was orphanage owned and managed by Ecumenical Patriarchate and few decades ago Turkish government confiscated it. It has been returned to the Greek comunity, but this was forced by the court. In civilised world governments, responsible for such ruining of cultural heritige, are obliged to restore the objects to its original condition.

Definitely one of the main attractions on this island. It's a lovely little hike or a bicycle tour up on the hill to see this abandoned orphanage, thought to be one of the biggest wooden buildings. It's worth to check it out, if you're interested in how nature conquers back what's hers. Only downsight is that there is no possibility to explore it from the inside, the only way to see it is to look over a big wired fence. Also the information sign is quite hidden.

A very old wooden building constructed in 1903, it It served originaly as an orphanage until 1963. Today it is considered the largest wooden building in Europe and second largest in the world. Worth a visit

Very spooky abandoned building. It is impressive that it is the biggest existing construction made of wood. They should organize photography tours or something else which would bring out the meaning of it a little closer to us. It stays alone and abandoned on top of this beautiful hill. It is worth to make at least one spooky movie here before as they say turn it into a hotel.

The Prinkipo Greek Orphanage (also known as Prinkipo Palace or Büyükada Greek Orphanage) is a historic 20,000-square-meter wooden building on Büyükada, one of the nine Princes' Islands off the coast of Istanbul, Turkey, in the Sea of Marmara. It is considered the largest wooden building in Europe and second largest in the world. It served as an orphanage from 1903 to 1964.

I haven't had chills like the ones I had today visiting this place for the a long time. I read that it was possible to enter the sight before, however, we were unlucky to not be able to. But it's still a nice place to visit while you're on the prince's islands.
