The station was built by the company Philipp Mann according to plans of the German architects Otto Ritter von Kühlmann and Hellmuth Cuno as the starting point of the Anatolian Railway and in its continuation of the Baghdad. Construction started on 30 May 1906, the inauguration took place on August 19, 1908. Otto Linnemann from Frankfurt created all the windows of the station hall.
