That's a place with an interesting history. It was first a church and then it turned into a mosque but, as you can see, the images on the walls have been renovated. Revealing the images is a hard and precise work. It's a huge building with some surprises. Like the cat you can see on the photos I share but maybe that's not a surprise considering the fact there are a lot of cats in Istanbul. On the last photo you can see a small hole. The legend says that if you can turn you thumb without any interruptions and without changing the position of your hand, it will bring you good luck. Good luck with trying that! ;)

Back in the days when nobody had ever heard of covid-19, we visited Istanbul. What an amazing experience. Excellent food, warm people and more historic locations than you could shake a stick at. Simply wonderful.

Hagia Sophia is one of the oldest temple which was initially built as church at 6th century and after the conquest of Constantinople it converted to mosque by Sultan Mehmed II Conqueror. As a short period of time the building was used as museum until 2020. The mosaics inside the mosque are precious example of Byzantine era.

Before you could only enter Aya Sophia when you bought a museum ticket but this all changed in July 2020 when they opened it as an actual mosque where people can pray. It is hard to describe, but I really adore this place. I went 3 times in a week just to admire the fantastic and authentic interior, it just left me speechless every single time. But please, respect the rules and people who pray. I saw many people just going inside with shoes on or taking off their head cover when in the mosque, be respectful or don't even bother coming here.

If one visits Turkey its one of its must see places. Its an amazing structure, once oround it or in it it still gives you the feeling that time is at a standstill, it gives you a feeling of living the moment when it was created. The Architectural design is superb and the painting on the wall and roof along with the marble carvings will astonish you. Originally called the Hagia Sophia it was a church then was made into a Mosque then declared as a museum and reopened as a Mosque . What ever they would like to convert it into its a piece of art from the past you must look at for sure
