From what I understood, the column is around a 1000 - 2000 years old. But now its reinforced with steel rings and bolts. Apparently maybe there is buried treasure under it!? But the Turkish government has made a nice seating area near it, where you can sit and look at the tower for some time .

A historical landmark in the middle of the city with an amazing sitting area around this standing tall column of Constantine - Qastantunia. The other historical places are on the walking distance from here. You can also catch a tram from here or you can walk to their main bazar

It's a very nice column with some historic information nearby in English, Turkish and Arabic(?). Not much more I can say near to the Serpent Column and German Fountain.
