In Turkey, even though masses have always been attracted to politics, their sources of information were not official records but doubtful sources like statements of subjective political figures. Due to this problem citizens of Turkey haven’t been able to establish a reliable information flow from the parliament, GNAT. Our organization hopes to solve this problem by creating a platform, which might overcome this divided political life, called Referandom. Referandom is an independent voter network that serves for making Turkey’s representative democracy more accessible, transparent, participatory and accountable. Due to the rapidly changing agenda of the GNAT, the ultimate aim of the Referandom is to raise public awareness of what is on the table and to ensure every citizen of this country play a part in politics. Referandom operates to create an environment that everyone freely discusses on and participates in the social and political agenda of the GNAT. Furthermore, Referandom creates a reliable information flow for politics by eliminating subjective perspectives and relying on only the legal and verifiable sources like the official records of GNAT sessions. Editors investigate the agenda of the plenary, general assembly minutes, and results of proposals day by day, shorten them and make them easy to read and understand by anyone. As an organization we believe that in order to reach all citizens, proposals should be understandable for all. Hence, politics shall become connected with the citizens. Even so, users still can reach the full text of proposals for further information, vote them, state their reasons, view the best reasons to approve and reject, support others’ comments, and share proposals with people they want to see. With our work we offer Turkey a way to establish a connection between the political figures and the voters with trust by raising political awareness and making it possible for voters to decide in addition to going to the ballot boxes.
