I really wanted to enter there but it was closed due to the restoration works. Another mosque that converted from church

This is an update to a comment I wrote in May 2017. I was in Istanbul last week (December 2018) and saw that the mosque is finally undergoing restoration. The sign says the work should be finished in November 2019. Yay!
Lovely little mosque. Unique architecture. If you are in the area i would recommend visiting it. Lots of street cats around as well. So sweet.
I don't understand all the five-star ratings from people who never set foot inside the mosque - which seems to be pretty much everyone here, considering their comments. I made the detour to see the outside of the former Byzantine church. However, as is the case of all Byzantine churches, the outside is never anything much to look at. I tried peering in through the windows but all I saw suggested a long-standing state of neglect. A sign outside seems to contain the word estauration\ - I hope it's in reference to this mosque.
This dilapidated Byzantine church could potentially be a significant attraction, but as it is it looks ready to give up the ghost fairly soon. It appears not to have been in use as a mosque for quite some time, so it's conversion into a museum site would also be no loss to the conquering faith. It's worth the slight detour to see it if you're in the area around the Suleimanyie, but given its rather sad exterior and it seemingly being permanently locked up and inaccessible, I'm not sure it warrants any great effort to anyone but a historian.
Fantastic
It is in a pretty bad place, around it there is slum. The mosque is in bad condition, it is closed, there is a fence around it and a second roof above. But it doesn't seem like there are restoration works.
Beautiful old mosque, it's clean and they serve free tea for visitors, the imam is friendly and kind
