The only active Ashkenazi Synagogue left in Istanbul. The nearby Schneider Tempel was also an Ashkenazi Synagogue, but now functions as an art gallery. It is possible to visit if you make an appointment with the Chief Rabbinate of Turkey beforehand. Note that you must have ID with you when entering. Occasionally concerts and musical recitals are also held at this Synagogue which has great acoustics!

Turkey’s only Ashkenazi Synagogue ! The Synagogue was founded by Jews of Austrian origin in 1894. The synagogue’s first members were poor tailors and female prostitutes.
