From a tourist perspective the hop on hop off ferry is a good way to explore turkey whilst getting a view from the Sea of Marmara. Despite the language barrier, staff at the ferry terminal are understanding and can help you get to where you want to go.

Fast and easy to catch the ferry to the Buyukada. The tickets cost around 10 TL one way, it takes about an hour and half to get to the island and I quite enjoyed my trip using this public ferry. Cheers.
